From 30 June to 3 July 2025, two members of the IberLAND team took part in the 150th International Congress of Americanists, held in Novi Sad, Serbia – full programme available here.
Alongside Elisa Cerón (École des hautes études en sciences sociales), Marlen Palma coordinated the symposium “La construcción de los territorios americanos: nuevas discusiones historiográficas. Actores, discursos y gestión. Siglos XVI-XVIII,” which provided an opportunity to discuss with other scholars how perspectives of the territory from different actors interacted in the American territories during the colonial period. Marlen Palma focused on the institution of the cacicazgo with the presentation “La construcción del territorio desde el cacicazgo. Una mirada interna. Cuilapa. Siglos XVII-XVIII” while Alina Rodríguez Sánchez looked at the complexities of how boundaries were drawn among the Mixtec polities in the sixteenth century in her presentation “¿Cómo se traza un pueblo? Negociaciones y conflictos sobre términos y mojoneras en la Nueva España, siglo XVI.”
